Tripura CM Makes Controversial Statement About Lynching Incident

The 48 year old Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Deb has found himself in yet another controversy. While attending the function of the newly renamed airport in Agartala, reporters asked Deb regarding the recent lynchings in Tripura. Based on rumors of child abduction and organ selling, separate mob attacks and lynching took lives of 4 innocent citizens.

According to a report by a news site, his reply shocked reporters. He said, “There is a wave of happiness in Tripura and you should enjoy this wave. You should also be happy. Look at my face…I am so happy.”

Instead of condemning the act and assuring strict action against the perpetrators, he shared his joyous mood and encouraged the reporters to be happy.

According to the news, a statement was issued on Thursday July 5 stating his comments were misquoted and pulled out of context. He has been in the news previously for various controversial statements like “Internet and Satellite Communication existed during the Mahabharata era.”

With him coming to power in Tripura, Lenin statues were broken across the State leading to Nationwide protests against the BJP by Left affiliated organisations and student fronts.
