TRS MP Kavitha Talks About Women’s Reservation Bill

At the Leadership Summit Led by Women Member of Parliament from Telangana K. Kavitha said she is hopeful the Women’s Reservation Bill will be passed in the next Parliament session.

Kavitha said, “It is high time we get the Women’s Reservation Bill passed. If not this session, then at least next session the bill should see the light of the day. The bill will surely bring about the required change in the women’s representation in politics and will help in fighting for women’s rights in a better fashion.”

The Leadership Summit is organized by the Center for Management Studies at the Nalsar University of Law in Hyderabad.

The Bill was introduced in the Parliament back in 2008 but is still waiting to be passed as a law. Kavitha was asked what she felt was the reason for the bill staying at the beginning stage. She blamed the lack of political will by the UPA and the current NDA as major reasons for the bill not progressing.

Kavitha went on to address the women of the country urging them to stand up for their rights. The Telangana MP highlighted the ongoing issues women face from domestic violence, safety and pay inequalities. She went on to express how women empowerment is a major conversation only during the month of Women’s Day.

Kavitha also questioned why only women are pushed towards fighting for their problems. Adding that men need to stand up for this cause as well.
