The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC,) on Wednesday, hired a contractor and ordered for the demolition of a century old Nizam era bus terminal at Gowliguda, Hyderabad.

The Nizam era bus stand, considered a landmark, was originally installed by the Nizam Transport Department (NTD.) It came crashing down in July 2018 due to the lack of maintenance.

The TSRTC department called for tenders for dismantling the bus stand, after figuring out there is no chance of reconstructing it. There were reports stating the TSRTC will construct a multiplex at the site. However, the authorities denied such reports and shared their plan of constructing an integrated bus complex.

Nawab Najaf Ali Khan, the grandson of the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, was disappointed with the authorities for not taking care of the century old heritage site. He also said, “Now whatever is constructed there should be named after the Nizam as a mark of remembrance of his contribution.”

Approximately 10 workers were allotted for demolishing the bus stand. They are cutting the iron metal sheds of the bus stand into pieces with sharp gas cutters. The demolition is expected to finish within a month.
