On Monday, Telangana police unearthed and defused two landmines in Bhupalpally district. The powerful landmines were allegedly planted by Maoists.
At around 4:30 A.M., a police team spotted a wire coming out of the road between Abbaigudem and Aluvaka villages. Additional Superintendent of Police, Rahul Hedge reported the police immediately alerted the bomb squad. The bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot where they found 25 Kg of explosives with detonators.
The police official was quoted saying, “They were powerful landmines which could have blown up a bus if detonated.”
The ASP explained, “There are a lot of Shandies in Allubaka where people from nearby villages and Chattisgarh visit on a regular basis. Even the Maoists visit the area to collect their rations. Hence, the police regularly keep track of activities in the area. Since many politicians and police pass through this route, the mines were planted to target them.”
A case was registered under the sections of the Explosives Act against unidentified persons. The police are investigating the case to find the culprits behind the landmines.
