Unnao Rape Case: CBI Questions BJP Lawmaker Sengar

BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar was taken in for questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection to the Unnao rape case. Mr. Sengar is accused of raping a 15 year old girl in Uttar Pradesh last year.

The CBI took the lawmaker in for questioning after a case was registered against the Minister on Thursday. A total of three cases have been filed against Sengar with the Makhi Police Station in Unnao.

The BJP MLA has been charged under the strict POCSO Act and multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code related to rape. A few hours after the CBI was handed the case, Sengar was taken into custody from his home at 4:30 A.M.

Yesterday, the Allahabad High Court bombarded the UP Government and asked them if Sengar would be arrested. The Court also pointed out the negligence of the police towards this case.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice D. B. Bhosale with Justice Suneet Kumar will announce its order regarding this case today.

The teen accused Mr. Sengar of raping her last year and threatening her to be silent. This case became public after the teenager attempted to kill herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s house on Sunday. The girl accused the State Government of protecting the accused lawmaker. The case got serious when the girl’s father was killed in custody after being beaten up by the lawmaker’s brother who was later arrested.
