On Sunday, the Vanasthalipuram police arrested a 37 year old woman from Hyderabad on the charges of cheating. The woman had filed a complaint of dowry harassment against her third husband after which she was arrested.

The woman has been identified as C. Saritha who alleged that her third husband was harassing her for dowry.

The husband Rao, was arrested on 31st July by the police but later received bail. After bail, the husband did a background report on his wife and found that she had done the same thing twice before once in 2005 and 2011.

DCP of LB Nagar, M. Venkateswar Rao reported, “He had unearthed the certificates of her earlier marriages and the FIR copies of the cases. After verifying the evidence, it was revealed that Saritha had married twice in the past.”

Reports revealed that Saritha had married a man in 2005 and filed for dowry harassment in 2007. She pulled her case back after taking Rs. 6 lakhs in cash and 20 tolas of gold.

Saritha went on to dupe another man in 2011 and divorced the man after collecting Rs. 9 lakhs.

This is the first case of fake dowry at the Rachakonda police jurisdiction and the Commissioner at the station Mahesh Bhagwat reported, “Apart from the victim, another person also approached the police to lodge a complaint against her. In such cases, it is hard to find evidence against the culprit. In this case, police managed to find enough evidence (FIRs and marriage certificates). Otherwise, such cases are tricky.”

Saritha was produced in front of a court and remanded to judicial custody until the next hearing.
