Diego Maradona, 60 years old, legendary passed away on the night of the 25th of November.  Maradona died at his home in Tigre after suffering a cardiac arrest.  Earlier in November, Maradona underwent a surgery for a brain clot.  His personal doctor, neurologist Leopoldo Luque, said the problem likely was caused by an accident.

Argentinians gathered on the roads to pay tribute to Diego Maradona, a legendary football player from Argentina. 

Mr. Maradona was proud of Argentina and was best known for his performance in the 1986 World Cup.  He was the man of the match and led Argentina to win the World Cup.

Tributes started pouring in for the legendary player in Argentina.  Social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook flooded with messages remembering Diego Maradona. 

Liverpool tweeted, “A true great of the game. Rest in peace, Diego Maradona.”

Leonel Messi paid tribute and said, “Diego is eternal.”  In his Instagram post, Messi said, “He’s left us but he hasn’t gone, because Diego is eternal,”  He further said, “I’ll keep all the great times I enjoyed with him and want to take the opportunity to send my deepest respects to all his family and friends. RIP.”

Diego Maradona recently on the 30th of October, celebrated his 60th birthday.  He even attended Gimnasia’s national championship match and won with 3-0 scores.

Highlighting the journey of Maradona in football, he witnessed a downfall in his career due to years of drug use, overeating and alcoholism. 

However, Diego Maradona made a stunning comeback in 2008 as a coach of the Argentina Football team.

In Argentina, he was worshipped as ‘El Dios’ – The God – partly a play on words on his number 10 shirt, ‘El Diez.’

The President of Argentina Alberto Fernandez, declared three days of national mourning and cancelled all his engagements.

The Argentina Government is expecting a million people to pay their final respects. 

In addition, government buildings will be lit up in the colours of the Argentinian flag in the honour of great Diego Maradona.
