Boxer Lovlina Borgohain on the 30th of July, secured the second medal for India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic.
After Mirabai Chanu, this is the second victory of India at the Olympics. Lovlina Borgohain won the Gold medal against Nien-Chin Chen from Taiwan, and reached the women’s welterweight semifinals.
With this, Lovlina Borgohain also becomes the second woman boxer to bring a medal to India. The first one is the fighter Mary Kom, who also won a bronze medal in Olympics 2012. Overall, Lovlina Borgohain is the third Indian to win a medal, the first two are boxer Vijender Singh (won bronze medal in Olympics 2009) and boxer Mary Kom (2012.)
After the win of Lovlina Borgohain, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed happiness and pride. He took to Twitter and said,

The Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also congratulated Lovlina Borgohain for her victory.
Meanwhile, Twitter is also flooded with congratulatory messages for the victory of an Indian Athlete at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
After winning the quarter finals, Lovlina Borgohain would compete against Turkey’s reigning world champion Busenaz Surmeneli in the semifinals on the 4th of August.
The Tokyo Olympics started from the 23rd of July 2021 and would end on the 8th of August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.
