Lin Dan, Chinese badminton champion and two time Olympic winner, on the 4th of July, announced his retirement. 

Lin Dan, 36 years old won gold medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics and secured a 2nd gold medal in 2012 London Olympics in Badminton championship.

Lin Dan is one of the legendary players of badminton from China and represented China in several championships.  He is also a five time World Badminton champion.

Lin Dan, at a young age of 28 won major titles of Badminton world by winning, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Super Series Masters Finals, All England Open, Asian Games, and Asian Championships.

Lin Dan is the only Chinese player  to win all the aforementioned titles. 

With this retirement announcement, it is clear, Lin Dan, would not participate in the next Olympics, scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan. 

Initially the summer Olympics 2020 was scheduled to begin from the 23rd of July till the 9th of August. 

However, due to the pandemic crisis, the Novel Coronavirus, the Summer Olympics shifted to 2021.
