On the 29th of September, the Cyberabad special operations team (SOT) conducted various raids and busted a betting racket.
According to sources, organised at various places in Hyderabad, the betting racket was working on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL.) The Cyberabad Police conducted raids in Miyapur, Bachupally, Mailardevpally and seven other places where the betting on IPL 2021 was being carried out. During the search, the police seized Rs. 93 lakhs cash and property worth Rs. 2.20 crores.
After busting the racket, Mr. Stephen Ravindra, the Cyberabad Police Commissioner, addressed the media and confirmed the same. He said they seized the cash and assets worth Rs. 3.13 crores and arrested 23 people who were running the racket.
Mr. Stephen Ravindra said, “We have also found their networks in Mumbai, Goa and Dubai. A man from Vijayawada is said to be the main person in the racket under whom three persons are being directed on the IPL betting.” They were conducting bettings through mobile applications. In regard to this, the Cyberabad Police SOT sent a written letter to Google India, asking them to remove the applications from the Play Store.
During the IPL, betting is common as many people bet and aim to win instant cash. In the past one week, several cases of IPL betting were reported. Recently in Delhi, Indore and Mumbai, police busted IPL betting rackets operating through mobile applications.
