On the evening of the 6th of July, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a new squad for the upcoming Royal London Series against Pakistan. 

The ECB Chief Executive Officer Tom Harrison said, “We have been mindful that the emergence of the Delta variant, along with our move away from the stringent enforcement of bio secure environments, could increase the chances of an outbreak.” He further announced the return of Ben Stokes, a cricketer of the England team as the Captain in the Pakistan series. Tom Harrison said, “Overnight we have worked swiftly to identify a new squad, and we are grateful to Ben Stokes who will return to England duties to Captain.”

The new squad of England Men’s One Day International (Royal London series against Pakistan) are:

Danny Briggs (Warwickshire)

Brydon Carse (Durham)

Zak Crawley (Kent)

Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire)

The new squad was a replacement of three players, who tested positive for the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

Nearly seven members of the England Men’s One day International (ODI) contingent to play against Pakistan, including three players and four management staff tested positive for the deadly Wuhan virus. The confirmation of the members being COVID-19 was made by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on the 6th of July.

The ECB released a statement, which read, “Following PCR tests administered yesterday (Monday) in Bristol, The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) can confirm that seven members – three players and four management team members- of the England Men’s ODI party have tested positive for COVID-19.” The release further said, “In collaboration with Public Health England, Public Health Wales and Bristol Local Health Authority, those impacted will now observe a period of self-isolation from July 4 following the UK Government’s protocol on quarantine. The remaining members of the party have been deemed close contacts and will also isolate.”

England are scheduled to play Pakistan in ODIs and T20Is starting from the 8th of July. The match was scheduled to be held in Cardiff.

The six match limited overs including 3 ODIs and the Pakistan series is scheduled to begin from the 8th of July.
