This year, approximately 971 cricketers registered for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 auction.
The League, on the 2nd of December, released a press note and announced the auction for IPL 2020. The release read, “The VIVO IPL Player Registration closed on 30th November with 971 players (713 Indian and 258 overseas players) signing up to be a part of the VIVO IPL 2020 Player Auction set to take place in Kolkata on 19th December 2019.”
The franchises would shortlist their final players and submit the list by 5:00 P.M., on the 9th of December. After the submission of the list by franchises, the League would prepare a final auction list of players who would then compete for 73 available spots.
Speaking about the 971 players, 713 are Indian players and 258 are from foreign countries.
Below is the list of number of overseas players registered for the auction:
New Zealand: 24
South Africa: 54
Sri Lanka: 39
The United States of America (U.S.A.): 1
West Indies: 34
Out of the 713 Indian players, 19 players are capped players (those who represented India at an international level in any one format of cricket) and 634 uncapped players (those who did not represent India at an international level.) The remaining 60 players are uncapped but played IPL at least once.
On the other hand, out of the 258 overseas players, 196 are capped players, 60 uncapped and two are from Associate Nation.
The auction for the IPL 2020 would be held on the 19th of December in Kolkata, West Bengal. Hugh Edmeades, an international auctioneer, would be the auctioneer for the 2020 IPL.
