On Friday, Lionel Messi married his childhood sweetheart at a ceremony in his Argentine hometown. The ceremony was attended by some of the biggest names in soccer.
The marriage of Messi and Antonella Roccuzzo at a luxury hotel were attended by about 250 guests. This included Barcelona teammates of Messi like Neymar, Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique accompanied by his wife and Colombian pop star Shakira.
The Argentine streets were filled with fans over the wedding in Rosario, an agricultural hub, and the country’s third-largest city. This place is about 300 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires.
Apart from 250 something guests, there were 150 journalists that were allowed to cover the event. However, they had no direct access to the ceremony or the after party.
Residents of Rosario expressed their joy over Messi’s decision to get married in the city. The onlookers gathered before the wedding began. Though a heavily guarded site they hoped to snap photos of the Barcelona soccer stars.
While Messi looked dapper in a Tuxedo, Roccuzzo looked like a vision in the mermaid style Rosa Clara wedding gown.
