P.V. Sindhu, an Indian badminton player, on the 25th of August, won the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Championships 2019 and bagged a gold medal for India.
She won the championship against Nozomi Okuhara at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland.
Speaking on the occasion of her victory, P.V. Sindhu said, “I lost in the last two finals and this win was very important for me. I was to thank the crowd for supporting me every time.” She further added, “I won for my Country and I am very proud to be an Indian.”
Extending her thanks, Sindhu said, “A big thanks to my coach Miss Kim and Gopi sir and the entire support staff. I also want to dedicate this to my parents and especially my mom, it’s her birthday today. So, happy birthday mom.”
The BWF Championships started on the 19th of August and continued till the 25th of August.
The final match of the BWF Championships was one sided, as P.V. Sindhu did not allow the opponent to score a lot of points and won with a lead of 14 points. The score between Sindhu and Okuhara in both the rounds was 21-7 and 21-7.
Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Tapsee Pannu, Anupam Kher, Karan Johar, Sonu Nigam, Anushka Sharma and others took to Twitter and congratulated Sindhu for winning the gold medal.
