Yesterday saw Sachin Tendulkar give appreciation to the champions who deserve the laurels that they are getting. We are talking about none other than the stunning shuttler P.V. Sindhu, the mighty wrestler Sakshi Malik and the graceful gymnast Dipa Karmakar. These three along with the most dedicated coach that we have seen, Pullela Gopichand, were felicitated yesterday at the prestigious Gopichand Badminton Academy where the God of Cricket, Sachin, himself handed over the swanky BMW keys to the stars.
P.V. Sindhu, guided by her coach Gopichand, bagged the silver medal in Badminton at this year at the Rio Olympics, narrowly missing the gold to Carolina Marin from Spain. Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in Wrestling for India in the 58kg category while Dipa Karmakar, though couldn’t clinch a medal, was the third women in the history of gymnastics to have attempted the risky Produnova vault.
“This is a wonderful moment for Indian sport. We are extremely proud of you, we all are praying for you, we all support you now that you have said you want to convert bronze into gold and silver into gold (in the next Tokyo Olympic games)” said Sachin. He also praised the effort put in by the coach Gopichand saying “Gopichand you have been a wonderful role model, you have gone a notch higher. We all admire you. You are a real hero. We need your guidance in getting more medals. I thank various other coaches also.”
Mr. Chamudeswarnath, the president of the Hyderabad Badminton Association of India sponsored the cars two of which were the BMW X1 and the BMW 320d models.
