Vijay Mallya, the absconding businessman attended a ‘charity dinner’ by Virat Kohli’s foundation on Monday. However, the complete Indian Cricket team including the event organizer and Captain Virat Kohli kept their distance from Mallya. The team even left early from the event in order to avoid any kind of controversy.

Mallya has taken refuge in England presently and was also seen on Sunday at India’s match against Pakistan in Edgbaston. The Indian Government is, however, trying for Mallya’s extradition from UK. Mallya has been charged with unpaid debts of Rs. 9000 crores to different banks in India. Mallya is, incidentally, the owner of Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL team, led by Virat Kohli.

A  BCCI official said that the team along with it’s skipper were uncomfortable with the presence of Mallya at the event. He added, “Look, Virat or his foundation never invited Mallya at the function. But normally what happens at the charity dinner is that someone who has bought a table is entitled to invite his guests. Similarly, someone who bought a table must have invited him.”

The reports also state the “Indian team wasn’t comfortable and they maintained a dignified distance from Mallya. Mallya’s presence is one of the reason that team left early. The players were very uncomfortable.” It was also described as an unavoidable situation as one couldn’t have possibly asked him to leave.
