The Women’s Premier League (WPL) recorded a bid of Rs. 4,670 crores, confirmed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI.)

On the 25th of January, Mr. Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary announced before the Women’s Premier League’s inaugural season on Twitter that the bids from men’s IPL franchises in 2008 had been surpassed. With a total offer value of Rs 4,669 crore, the Board has approved franchises for the five teams in the Women’s Premier League (WPL.)

Mr. Jay Shah said, “Today is a historic day in cricket as the bidding for teams of the inaugural #WPL broke the records of the inaugural Men’s IPL in 2008! Congratulations to the winners as we garnered Rs.4669.99 Cr in the total bid.”

The first Women’s Premier League will feature five cities: Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Lucknow. The top corporate conglomerate in India, Adani Group, purchased the Ahmedabad franchise through its sports company, Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd. The largest offer, 1289 crore Indian Rupees, was also made by the Ahmedabad team.

For the Mumbai franchise, India win Sports Pvt Lt paid INR 912.99 crores. Similar to how they won the bid for the city in the women’s T20 league, the Royal Challengers group, which owns Bengaluru’s men’s club, spent INR 901 crores.

Similar trends were seen with the Delhi franchise, when the JSW group, which owns the men’s tournament team Capitals, successfully offered INR 810 crore.

Meanwhile, Viacom18 has already secured the Women’s Premier League (IPL) media rights value for the 2023-2027 cycle for a whopping Rs 951 crore.
