With repeated riots in the valley, the government of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to ban social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp. It has been over a month that this ban has been implemented.

Some Kashmiris have learned to live without access to social media and others resorted to Virtual Private Networks to access these sites. Amidst this chaos, a teenager of Anantnag decided to create his own version of Facebook. He named it KashBook and claimed it to be Kashmir’s own Social Networking site.

Zayan Shafiq, a student of Class 10, who completed his exams a few days ago, is the founder of this site. The site was launched in 2013, but the presence of Facebook created a hindrance. But the site was relaunched after the social media ban in the last month,

Reports say the site has hundreds of Google Play Store downloads and also thousands of users registered to it. The site is apparently, very similar to Facebook and lets you add people, post status and chat with the.

Kashbook operated without a VPN in the valley, unlike Facebook and Twitter, making it easier and convenient for people to access.
