On Wednesday, Volvo announced from the year 2019 all the cars released by the company will come with an electric motor. This will mark the end of cars with only an internal combustion engine (ICE.)

President and Chief Executive of Volvo Cars, Hakan Samuelsson said, “People increasingly demand electrified cars and we want to respond to our customers’ current and future needs. You can now pick and choose whichever electrified Volvo you wish.”

The company plans to slowly phase out its ICE cars and will introduce electrified cars like plug in hybrid cars and mild hybrid cars.

Samuelsson also said,”This announcement marks the end of the solely combustion engine powered car.”

Between the years 2019 and 2021 Volvo will release five fully electric cars and will offer the best electrified cars than any car maker.

The five cars will be supplemented by different petrol and diesel plug in hybrid and mild hybrid 48 volt options.

The company said it plans to focus on reducing carbon emissions for its operations and products. Volvo is aiming at climate neutral manufacturing operations by the year 2025.
