Vijayashanti, one of the star campaigners of the Indian National Congress (INC) is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
Mr. Vijayashanti is likely to join the BJP ahead of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on the 24th of November.
The rumours of Vijayashanti quitting the INC was in the talks, since the announcement of the Dubbaka by elections in October. The rumours started after Vijayashanti met with G.Kishan Reddy, a member of the BJP. She even condemned the arrest of the BJP President of Telangana, Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Later, she kept herself away from the Dubbaka by elections, but she refuted the rumours of joining the BJP back then.
However, on the evening of the 22nd of November, an official announcement regarding her joining was made.
A source close to Ms. Vijayashanti who wished to be anonymous said, “She was supposed to join (the) BJP long back but she was seeking one of the top posts at the national level in the party and also wanted to re join in the presence of one of the top two in BJP government at the Centre.”
According to sources, Ms. Vijayashanti would wear the saffron scarf on the 24th of November in the presence of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior leaders of the BJP. She would travel to Delhi on the 23rd of November and would join the ruling BJP the next day.
The shifting of Vijayashanti to the BJP ahead of the GHMC polls is a big jolt to the INC.
The GHMC elections for 150 wards are scheduled to be held on the 1st of December. The three major parties contesting the GHMC elections are the INC, the BJP and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.)
The results of the GHMC elections would be announced on the 4th of December.
