BJP Corporators File Complaint Against Telugu Singer Mangli Over Bonalu Festival Song Controversy

On the 20th of July, a few Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators filed a police complaint against Telugu singer Mangli.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) corporators objected to the recent Bonalu festival song, released by Ms. Mangli. As per the media reports, the corporators said, a few lyrics of the song, released on the 11th of July, were inappropriate and were hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

According to sources, this year the Bonalu Festival song was composed in ‘Ninda Stuti’ (blame praise.) In this style, the devotees look like they are blaming the goddess and get upset, but they are actually praising their gods and idols. However, unable to get the same, the BJP leaders in Telangana found the song derogatory and inappropriate, insulting and hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

In regard to this, a delegation led by the BJP corporators met the Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat. The complaint has been filed in the name of the Malkajgiri BJP corporator Mr. Sravan.

During the meeting with CP Mahesh Bhagwat, they filed a complaint and demanded the necessary action against the singer.

Meanwhile, the singer Ms. Mangli reacted to the complaint and said, prior to singing the song, she also objected to the problematic part of the lyrics, composed by Rama Swamy. Many fans of Ms. Mangi supported her saying, the problematic lyrics are not her fault but the lyricist. However, the song has been released on her YouTube channel, therefore she has been named in the complaint.

On the other hand, taking the responsibility, the Telugu singer Ms. Mangli recomposed the song, changed the lyrics and released the Bonalu Festival song again.
