K.Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 27th of April, participated in the video conference meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Considering the situation of Telangana due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, KCR said the situation could be better if people support the lockdown more.

During a media briefing, Mr. Rao said, “If the present lockdown continues for some time and people continue to maintain their personal hygiene and take precautions, the virus spread will totally come down in the coming days.”

KCR after the meeting with the Prime Minister of India, conducted a review meeting and  thought over the extension of the ongoing lockdown.   Mr. Rao said if the State Government strictly follows the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO,) the situation could improve.   As per the suggestions of the WHO, lockdown is the only cure to prevent the spread of the virus, following which the  State Government might extend lockdown to the 25th of May.

However, it is not clear whether the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) would extend the lockdown, which is proposed to end on the 7th of May.

While the nationwide lockdown is scheduled to end on the 3rd of May, lockdown in Telangana would continue till the 7th of May.

The  nationwide lockdown is said to be a key to control the spread of the virus, avoiding public gatherings and maintaining social distancing.

Though the lockdown helped to maintain the figure of COVID-19 cases under 30,000, it has affected the economic situation badly.  The majority of industries and factories have been shut since the 24th of March, aviation industry, railway travel, agriculture and migrant workers are suffering due to the pandemic situation.

India so far reported a total of 28,118 cases of the Novel Coronavirus, out of which 20,659 are active cases, 6,573 are recoververed/ discharged cases and 886 are deceased.
