The Election Commission of India (ECI,) on the 4th of October, transferred the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Suryapet district, Telangana.
According to the ECI, R. Venkateswarlu, the SP of Suryapet, was alleged of being biased and favouring the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate contesting the Huzurnagar bypoll.
S. Saidi Reddy was nominated as the TRS Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) candidate for the Huzurnagar bypoll, scheduled on the 21st of October. The results of the Huzurnagar bypoll will be announced on the 24th of October.
The action against R. Venkateswarlu was taken after a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) complained against him with the ECI in New Delhi. The opposition party said the SP did not take any action against TRS leaders even when they violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Huzurnagar.
Apart from the BJP, the Indian National Congress (INC) also lodged a complaint against R. Venkateswarlu with the ECI.
R. Bhaskaran replaced R. Venkateswarlu as the SP of Suryapet with immediate effect.
