With the increasing number of the Novel Coronavirus cases in Telangana, the State Government decided to intensify testing. 

The decision was taken by the State Health Ministry to stem the spread of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 in Telangana.

Eatala Rajender, the Health Minister of Telangana, said the State recorded 10,444 positive cases and 225 fatalities till the 25th of June. 

On the 24th of June, the State tested 4,069 samples. 

Speaking about the COBAS 8800 machine, which would help to conduct rapid Coronavirus tests, Mr. Etela Rajender said, Telangana would soon receive a new COBAS 8800 machine for Coronavirus test.

Mr. Rajender said, “We are aiming at enhancing testing capacity to conduct 10,000 tests a day, of which 2,000 to 3,000 will be conducted by private facilities.”

Etela Rajender said the mortality rate due to the Novel Coronavirus is better than that of Swine Flu and severe acute respiratory illnesses (SARI.)

He further added, the a State has also improved in terms of recovery from the infection.

As of now, Telangana has 4,361 recovered cases and many positive patients are expected to recover in this week. 

On the 24th of June, Mr. Rajender visited the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS,) which is soon going to be in operation for COVID-19 patients. 

The expected date is the 29th of June, following which doctors and medical staff would also be recruited. 

The hospital has 1,224 beds, of which 1,000 beds have oxygen facility, while 50 beds have ventilators.

Mr.Rajender said, “TIMS Gachibowli is ready with all the latest technologies. TIMS is making doctors available in the same manner as Chandigarh’s PG college has done. There are 1,224 beds available in TIMS whereas 1,000 beds have oxygen facility and 50 have ventilator facilities. 15 floors are ready. In two days, we are recruiting staff.”

As of now, Telangana government hospitals reached a capacity of testing 6,000 people per day. 

Meanwhile, including tests conducted by private laboratories, the testing capacity of Telangana is near to 10,000 tests.

Till the 24th of June, Telangana conducted as many as 67,318 tests for the Novel Coronavirus.
