GHMC Elections: BJP’s Verbal Attack On AIMIM, Says Focus Is Only Rohingya Muslims Not Development

After criticising the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) targeted the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM.)

Ahead of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, the BJP took a dig at the AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi and the Party Working President, Akbaruddin Owaisi.

During a campaign for the GHMC elections, Tejaswi Surya, the BJP Yuva Morcha President said Asaduddin Owaisi and his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi have not allowed any development but only Rohingya Muslims in Hyderabad.

Addressing the media on the 23rd of November, Mr. Surya said,”Laughable that Akabaruddin and Asaduddin Owaisi are speaking of development. They haven’t allowed development in old Hyderabad, the only thing they allowed is Rohingya Muslims. He further added, “Every single vote to Owaisi is a vote against India and everything that India stands for.”

Blaming the AIMIM for standing against the development of the Old City and supporting illegal immigrants, Mr. Surya said, “He (Asaduddin Owaisi) speaks the language of rabid Islamism, separatism and extremism which Mohd Ali Jinnah was also speaking.”

The BJP MP’s attack has come ahead of the GHMC polls which are seen as a triangular contest among the AIMIM, TRS and BJP. The polls will be held on December 1 and results will be announced three days later on December 4.

Meanwhile, the AIMIM President alleged the BJP of spreading communal hate and asked not to do so.

Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi said, “If you wake up a BJP leader at night and ask them to give some names, they will say Owaisi, followed by traitor, terrorism and lastly Pakistan. But (the) BJP should say what financial help they provided to Telangana, especially Hyderabad after 2019.”

Highlighting the recent flood situation in the City, Mr. Owaisi said, “Hyderabad was hit by a flood. What financial help did (the) Modi Government provide to Hyderabad? They are trying to give this (election) a communal colour because they provided no help at that time. This will not work here, people know.”

All the parties contesting the upcoming GHMC elections are focusing on campaigning for their respective parties.

The major parties in the GHMC elections race are the India National Congress (INC,) the BJP, the TRS and in the Old City, a tough competition is the AIMIM.

The elections for the 150 wards of the GHMC are scheduled on the 1st of December and the results for the same would be declared on the 4th of December.

Stay tuned for further updates.
