Hussain Sagar – Water Touches Alarming Level

The water in Hussain Sagar rose to an alarming level due to the heavy rainfall in Hyderabad since the 24th of September.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials released 3,095 cusecs of water downstream.  The current flow of water in Hussain Sagar is 3,486 cusecs.

The officials also issued a notice regarding the same and alerted the people residing in low lying areas.  According to sources, the water was released over Kavadiguda, Ashok Nagar, Chikkapally, Bagh Lingampally, Koranti Hospital, Satyanagar and Ratnanagar to the main canal of Musi river.

The residents of these areas expressed their anger towards the GHMC as the latter did not deploy any rescue team to control the situation.

Ten crest gates of Nagarjuna Sagar of Telangana were also opened on the 27th of September, owing to the heavy rainfall.  The officials transferred 1,50,130 cusecs of water downstream.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) also reported Hyderabad would continue to receive rain for the next 3 days and the situation may worsen in the City.

The continuous rainfall has heavily impacted the lives of Hyderabad’s citizens as they are suffering due to heavy traffic jams and other issues, especially in areas near HITEC City.
