V.C. Sajjanar, the Commissioner of Cyberabad Police, shot the four accused in the Disha murder and rape case in a police encounter. On the 6th of December, he finally addressed the media and revealed details of the encounter.
Mr. Sajjanar said the Cyberabad Police took custody of all the four accused for interrogation and further investigation. They took them to the spot for recreating the crime scene to collect evidence and find out about the incident in detail.
However, at the spot, two of the four accused attacked the police officers, snatched their guns and opened fire. The Police warned them to drop the guns and surrender.
V.C. Sajjanar said, “Today, the police brought the accused to the crime spot as part of the investigation. The accused then attacked the police with sticks and then snatched the weapons from us and they started firing.”
The Police said despite several warnings by the Police officers, the accused continued to fire and in the process, the Police opened fire as well, leading to the encounter.
The encounter lasted for approximately 45 minutes, as it started around 5:40 A.M., and continued till 6:30 A.M., on the 6th of December.
According to the Hyderabad Police, two of their officials were injured during the encounter and are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad.
However, the National Humans Right Commission (NHRC) took a suo moto case regarding the encounter of all the four accused and ordered a spot probe be launched by the NHRC investigation team. Meanwhile, Anjali Mody, a journalist, filed a complaint against the Telangana Police for the extra judicial killing of the four accused in the Disha rape and murder case.
Speaking about the suo moto cognizance, Mr. Sajjanar said, “We will answer to whoever takes cognizance, the State Govt., NHRC, to all concerned.”
Mr. Sajjanar who killed all the four accused justified the encounter step and are ready to face any case and complaint filed against them.
While a large section of Indians applauded the Hyderabad Police, a few of them criticised them for the killings and are concerned about the citizens losing faith in the judicial system of India.
