Hyderabad: Massive Blast At Puppalaguda, 2 Injured

A compelling explosion took place at a construction site of Phoenix Spaces Private Limited in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Puppalaguda at 7.30 P. M. on Friday destroying a lorry and critically injuring two persons. The lorry was carrying gelatine sticks to the construction site.

The injured, P. Ramesh, a 25 year old from Shankarpally village and Naresh Pasupula, a 27 year old resident of Rajeevnagar colony in Gachibowli were taken to the Continental Hospital for treatment.

According to the hospital officials, the injuries sustained by both were serious. Ramesh suffered a pelvic bone fracture, while Naresh’s right leg was crushed. His leg will have to be amputated. However, both are out of danger.

The police informed the gelatin sticks that were carried by the lorry were to be used to blast rocks at the site. The massive sound scared the local people of the area and triggered panic. Some residents saw vehicle pieces falling on their houses. The sound of the blast was heard by residents of Jubilee hills also.

According to vernacular news channels, the blast killed four people. This created more panic among the local people. However, the police affirmed the blast was not an act of terror. It was a result of mishandling of the gelatin sticks that were carried along with boulders in the same lorry.

The police are gathering more information on the circumstances that led to this massive explosion. They will also verify if permissions were secured by the contractors before taking up the rock blasting works.
