Disappointed with the negligence of the Osmania University (OU) authorities and the Telangana Government, students of OU decided to organise a one day hunger strike.
Chanagani Dayakar, the President of the OU Joint Action Committee (JAC,) called for ‘Maha Deeksha’ on the 4th of December.
According to sources, one of the major demands of the students is to appoint full time vice chancellors in all the nine universities of Telangana.
Other demands highlighted by the students were the recruitment of teaching and non teaching staff in all the universities across the State and allocation of funds.
The Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 1st of December, addressed the media and extended its support to the students.
T. Jayaprakash Reddy, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the INC in Telangana, said he remembers the sacrifices made by the OU students during the agitation for separate Statehood.
Jayaprakash Reddy said, “Our total support will be there to the OU students for their justified demands.”
The OU students are scheduled to stage the 24 hour hunger strike on the 4th of December near the Arts College on the Osmania University campus.
