KTR Asks Officials To Ensure 10 Lakhs CCTV In Hyderabad

K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister of Telangana, on the 5th of October, conducted a review meeting. 

During the meeting, Mr. Rao asked officials to ensure nearly 10 lakhs closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in Hyderabad.

Mr. Rao in his descriptive instructions asked the officials to install CCTV cameras in addition to the existing 5.8 lakhs. He asked officials to work closely with various government departments, public sector undertakings, residential welfare associations regarding the CCTV installation.  

Telangana, and Hyderabad City in particular, is the first among other states and in the 16th place in the world in installing CCTV cameras for the safety of the public.

Mr. Rao said, “As the city is expanding and attracting more investments, there is a need to improve the vigil.”

He advised the Police, and Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA and UD) Departments to work jointly in installing CCTVs on the city suburbs where new colonies are coming up.

He instructed the MA and UD Department to coordinate with the Police Department to ensure that all commercial complexes, gated communities, malls, IT Parks, parks, shelter homes, government hospitals, bus terminals, and markets install CCTVs mandatorily.

Working on the directions of K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, KTR asked the concerned officials to give top priority to the safety of citizens and to enhance security in the State.

Mr. Rama Rao also sought suggestions if any rules related to the installation of CCTVs should be incorporated in the new Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA) Acts.

In addition, Mr. Rao advised the GHMC officials to take steps for better traffic management after consulting the traffic police.

The review meeting was attended by Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and Director General of Police DGP M. Mahendar Reddy and other district officials were also present at the meeting.

Meanwhile, on the 7th of October, KCR is scheduled to conduct a high level chair meeting.
