K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister of Telangana, on the 18th of November, said the State Government is soon going to appoint a chairperson to the Telangana Women’s Commission.

The Telangana Women’s Commission works for the welfare of the women in the State.

Mr. Rao announced the same by responding to a tweet from social activist Sunitha Krishnan.

Sunitha Krishnan, chief functionary and co founder of Prajwala, a non governmental organisation (NGO,) took to Twitter and said that it is not a good sign to have a state without a functional women’s commission for more than two years.

The chairperson for the State Women’s Commission post fell vacant since the completion of the term of Tripurana Venkataratnam in July 2018.

Ms. Krishnan said, “If there is no suitable woman within the party then to nominate suitable women with no political affiliation is a good idea.”

Reacting to the tweet, KTR  said the issue would be brought to the attention of K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana and ensure a fully functional women’s commission.

On the 5th of October, the Telangana High Court also asked the State Government regarding the appointment of a chairperson to the State Women’s Commission.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is likely to conduct a meeting and discuss the matter.

Stay tuned for further updates.
