K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, on the 4th of April, wished Bharat Biotech, who is trying to develop vaccine for the Novel Coronavirus.
On the 3rd of April, the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech decided to work on the development of vaccine of COVID-19 virus. The company is a part of an international collaboration of virologists and vaccine companies which started the work and now, the Bharat Biotech would also collaborate and make a vaccine.
The vaccine named ‘CoroFlu’ will build on the backbone of vaccine company FluGen’s flu vaccine candidate known as M2SR, a self limiting version of the influenza virus which induces an immune response against the flu.
Raches Ella, the Head Business Development of the Bharat Biotech, confirmed the news of collaboration to develop Coronavirus vaccine and said, ” Bharat Biotech will manufacture the vaccine, conduct clinical trials, and prepare to produce almost 300 million does of vaccine for global distribution. Under the collaboration agreement, FluGen will transfer its existing manufacturing processes to Bharat Biotech to enable the vaccine for clinical trials.”
