Laad Bazaar also known as the city’s popular bangle market near Charminar would be revived as a part of the exercise to revive the charm of the historic market. In regard to this, the concerned authority started a series of efforts, including the new facade for shops, has been finalised. Now, the facades of all the shops in Laad Bazaar would have a uniform design including the design of name boards, said the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC.)
A GHMC official said, “Presently, two shops have already been restored and a similar pattern will be replicated for all the other shops in Laad Bazar.” This centuries old market would be restored by the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority and the GHMC within a year.
For this, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar inspected the markets in the Laad Bazaar on Friday, the 3rd of February.
According to Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC), Laad Bazaar, formerly called Lord Bazaar, has more than 350 shops selling bangles encrusted with coloured stones. In a more than one kilometre long shopping strip, there are shops selling bangles, wedding related items, saris and low cost jewellery.
Located in one of the four major thoroughfares emerging from Charminar, many shops here are nearly 200 years old and draw a large number of buyers across the State and other parts of India as well.
