After the Telangana Government’s extended lockdown announcement, the Hyderabad District Chemists and Druggists Association decided to close medical stores by 7:00 P.M.
On the 1st of July, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) announced an extension of lockdown in the containment zones of Telangana till the 31st of July.
The decision was taken to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
Mohammed Aijaz Hussain, the General Secretary of the Hyderabad District Chemist and Drug Association, said, “Many medical store staffers have also tested positive for COVID-19. Mostly patients visit the stores and there is always a high risk of contracting the virus. Hence the decision was taken in the interest of the society and our members.”
However, the issued timings would not be applicable to the pharmacies attached to hospitals in the City.
Meanwhile, due to the increasing cases of the Novel Coronavirus in the State, chemists and pharmacists were asked to be extra cautious and wear PPE if possible. They are also asked to mandate face masks and sanitizer for customers visiting the chemist shops.
Recently, after being concerned about the increasing cases of the Novel Coronavirus, Jewellery Association of Telangana, Textile Association of Telangana and other shops in Telangana Hyderabad were shut till the 5th of July.
Despite being approved by the State Government, associations of textile, jewellery and others decided to shut shops for the safety of owners and workers.
Telangana is witnessing a massive increase in the cases of the Novel Coronavirus.
In the last 24 hours, the State reported 945 fresh cases, following which the total reached to a total of 16,339 cases.
