Hours after the Nampally court released Mr. T. Raja Singh, the suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Goshmahal constituency, protests erupted.  It is to be noted, Mr. Raja Singh was arrested on the 23rd of August, amid his remarks against Prophet Muhammad, the founder of the Islamic religion.  Later, a local court granted Mr. Raja Singh fourteen days of judicial custody, which was rejected by the Nampally Court, ordering his release.

Disappointed with the release of MLA Raja Singh, many people, especially from the Muslim community resumed their protest and demanded the arrest of Mr. Raja Singh. Many violent clashes were also reported, in which four people including a police sub-inspector were injured.  The protestors demanding action against the BJP MLA Raja Singh held several rallies all night on the 23rd of August.  The largest one was held at Shalibanda. A handful of Muslim protestors were also reportedly thrashed when they tried to reach Goshamahal.

Considering the violent protests situation, the Hyderabad Police deployed forces on alert and also closed down all the petrol pumps across parts of the old city, on the 24th of August, Wednesday.  A large number of personnel from the Rapid Action Force, the State Police and the Armed Reserve have been posted to contain the situation.

In addition, the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) clarified that the Charminar is kept open for visitors for now, but will be closed in the case of any major protest or skirmishes.

On the other hand, Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Member of Parliament (MP) from Old City, took a dig at the BJP.  He criticised the BJP leaders for hating Muslims and Prophet Muhammad and asked for clarification including the expulsion of MLA Mr. Raja Singh from the Assembly.
