Nizamabad farmers conducted a rally from the Old Bus Stand to the IMA Bhavan on the 16th of December.

The farmers took out the rally to demand a turmeric board be set up in Jagtial, Nizamabad district, Hyderabad.

Besides, the farmers also organized a ‘rasta roko’ in Jagtial and on a Karimnagar road, disturbing the traffic flow in the area.

The farmers also submitted a memorandum to the officials of the TRS Government, demanding the turmeric board be established.  After submitting the memorandum, the farmers then began a padayatra from Jagtial to Armoor in Nizamabad district.

During the rally, the farmers urged the Member of Parliament (MP) of Nizamabad to set up a turmeric board in Nizamabad.  Dharampuri Aravind, the MP of Nizamabad, during the Lok Sabha elections’ campaign, promised the farmers a turmeric board would be set up.  However, the MP did not fulfill his promise, due to which the farmers called for an agitation against the officials. The farmers even demanded Mr. Aravind resign as the MP as he failed to stand by his words.

The farmers want a turmeric board and minimum support prices (MSPs) for red jowar and turmeric.

The Nizamabad farmers are protesting against the Telangana Government, demanding the classification of turmeric as a food crop and turmeric being brought under Minimum Support Price (MSP,) for a long time.

The MSP would benefit the farmers of the district as they could then earn good profits from turmeric agriculture.

Stay tuned for further updates.
