In Telangana, the revamped government schools are set to reopen from the 1st of February, confirmed the State Education Department.

According to sources, government schools that have been revamped by upgrading their infrastructure under the first phase of the prestigious ‘Mana Ooru Mana Badi initiative, would be functional again from the 1st of February.  Under the initiative launched by the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS,) the State Education Department was directed to ensure enhanced infrastructure at government schools.

Ms. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Education Minister of Telangana, said, the works related to the first phase of the Mana Ooru Mana Badi initiative have been completed in 1,200 government schools.  She further added, “As part of this flagship programme, toilets with water facility, electrification, drinking water supply, adequate furniture for students/staff, painting entire school, major repairs, green chalkboards, protective walls, kitchen sheds, new classrooms in place of dilapidated rooms, dining facility (halls) in the high school and digital education have been arranged.”

Notably, the confirmation to reopen the revamped schools were made during a review meeting held on the Mana Ooru-Mana Badi initiative.  Chaired by Ms. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, the meeting was attended by the Education Department officials, who were asked to participate in the inaugural programmes of the revamped schools. 

During the meeting held on the 29th of January, Sunday, Ms. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy said, there are 26,055 government schools in Telangana, which are being upgraded in three phases under the initiative.  In the first phase, the State government incurred an expenditure of Rs. 3,497.62 crores to complete the modernisation of 9,123 schools. 

The Telangana Education Minister said, “The State Government has undertaken the task of modernising the government schools without compromising on the quality.  A lot of efforts have been taken up to ensure the new infrastructure in government schools will last for the next decade.”

The development works under the Mana Ooru Mana Badi at other government schools are still underway in a phased manner.
