T. Harish Rao, the Finance Minister of Telangana, on the 5th of August, announced to soon open RT-PCR labs in Telangana. 

The announcement was during RT-PCR lab launch in Siddipet.  Mr. Rao said, the State Government would soon open such labs in all districts after the Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) approval.

after obtaining necessary permission from the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR).

The Minister was speaking after inaugurating an RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing lab at RVM Medical College near Mulug in Siddipet district.

This would he the first of this kind of lab in the entire erstwhile Medak district of Telangana.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is likely to open more such labs in other districts of Telangana.

The set up RT-PCR labs would enhance testing for the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

Currently, the State is conducting a minimum of 10,000 tests per day. 

Overall, Telangana conducted 5,22,143 sample tests till the 5th of August.

Harish Rao said, “The RVM Medical College is providing all the services free of cost.”

In addition, Mr. Rao said the State Government has made available 5,000 rapid antigen test kits at Primary Health Centres across Siddipet district.  He also urged people to visit nearby government hospitals for quick tests. 

The State Government is also mulling over to designate more government hospitals for COVID-19 tests and treatment.  The decision would be taken to reduce the burden of the Gandhi Hospitals, where the majority of COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment at the State run Gandhi hospital. 

Members of Parliament (MP) of Medak Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Forest Development Corporation, Vanteru Prathap Reddy and other leaders were present during the launch event. 

With this number of positive cases in the State increased to 70,958, 19,568 are active cases, 50,184 are recovered/discharged cases and 576 deceased.
