Tamilisai Soundararajan, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the newly appointed Governor of Telangana, will take oath as the State Governor on the 8th of September.
Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, on the 2nd of September, announced new governors of five Indian states, Telangana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
R.S. Chauhan, the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, will administer the oath to Ms. Soundararajan.
K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, ministers of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and other TRS leaders will attend the oath taking ceremony.
After E.S.L. Narasimhan, the Governor of Telangana, Tamilisai Soundararajan will hold the position as the State Governor. She is the first woman Governor of Telangana as well as the first Governor of independent Telangana.
Previously, E.S.L. Narasimhan was the Governor of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) when Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were one State. Even after the State’s bifurcation, he continued to hold the position of Governor of both the Telugu States. However, recently, President Kovind replaced E.S.L. Narasimhan and appointed Biswabhusan Harichandan, a member of the BJP, as the Governor of AP, post which, Narasimhan remained the Governor of Telangana.
Apart from Tamilisai Soundararajan, Mr. Kovind appointed Kalraj Mishra as the Rajasthan Governor, Bandaru Dattatreya the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Arif Mohammed Khan the Kerala Governor and Bhagat Singh Koshyari the Maharashtra Governor.
The oath taking ceremony of Ms. Soundararajan will be held at 11:00 A.M., on the 8th of September.
