In Telangana, close to 83.5% prisoners received vaccine doses against the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

The Telangana Government conducted a separate vaccination drive to vaccinate prisoners in several jails of Telangana. The Director-General of Prisons and Correctional Services said the Medical and Health Department is facilitating vaccination camps in the concerned jails to vaccinate the eligible prisoners.

The report of 83.50 % prisoners being vaccinated was confirmed by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government in an affidavit submitted to the Telangana High Court (HC.)

As per to the Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, there are around 6,938 prisoners, both convicts, and undertrial in the state prisons. They have vaccinated 5,796 prisoners, of whom around 5,336 (76.91 percent) prisoners were administered the first dose and 460 (6.6 percent) others with both doses. Around 1,142 (16.5 percent) prisoners are still to be vaccinated.

In addition, of the total prisoners, a total of 1,165 prisoners are above 45 years old and 5,773 prisoners of age group 18 to 44 years old.

In addition, around 1,424 are convicts, while 4,349 are awaiting a trial.

Meanwhile, a total of 1.18 crore people of Telangana received vaccine doses against the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection till date.
