On the 11th of September, Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Civil Aviation Minister, along with Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Telangana State Minister, launched the Medicine From Sky project.
On Saturday, Mr. Jyotiradtiya Scindia launched the drug delivery services from drones as a pilot project in the Vikarabad region of Telangana. According to sources, the project would begin in 16 green zones in Telangana, following which it would be enhanced to the national level.
Through this Medicine From Sky Project, vaccines for the Wuhan virus (Novel Coronavirus) and other medicines would be sent to the needy people in different regions. The district and state collector would supervise the functioning and operation of these drones, which would carry the medicines.
During the launch occasion, Mr. Jyotiradtiya Scindia said, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is working towards the growth and development of the medicine sector. He said, to make the drone policy possible and easy, the Prime Minister led Central Government eased rules like decreasing the number of forms from 25 to 5 to be filled, decreasing types of fee charged from the operator from 72 to 4.
In addition, to fly drones carrying medicines there is no need to take permission in the green zones of COVID-19. However, to carry out the same operation in the yellow and red zones the concerned medical authority is required to take the permission from the concerned official.
Initially, there would be a pilot project of this medicine from sky service for the next three months. After the completion of this duration, the data would be analysed, following which any further decision would be taken.
With this, Telangana became the first state in the country to start drone services for delivering COVID-19 vaccines and medicines.
It is to be noted, Dunzo, TechEagle and Blue Dart are going to deliver vials through their drones. The project is a collaboration of the TRS Government and the World Economic Forum.
The first trials would begin at Vikarabad area hospital and other public health centres (PHCs.) A nodal officer would supervise the entire operation and once successful, it would be launched on a wide scale. The grant of these permits would achieve the dual objectives of faster vaccine delivery and improved healthcare access by ensuring primary healthcare delivery at the citizen’s doorstep. It would also limit human exposure to the Novel Coronavirus congested
or COVID-19 prone areas through aerial delivery.
