K. Chandrasekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 19th of October, announced a financial aid package of Rs. 550 crores.

During a review meeting, Mr. Rao announced the financial package to provide immediate relief to people residing in flood affected and low lying areas of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) areas. 

With the given amount of relief package, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) asked the officials to implement the relief operations using the funds from the 20th of October.

The authorities were also directed to provide the financial assistance to the needy immediately.

In a statement, KCR said people residing in inundated areas have suffered severe losses after rain water entered into their homes and damaged their essential commodities. 

Concerned to the people whose houses have been damaged partially or completely in the rain would get compensation. 

 As part of the financial package, Mr. Rao announced, the State Government would provide Rs. 1 lakh each for completely collapsed houses and Rs 50,000 each for partially damaged houses.  In addition, a financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 would be provided to each flood affected family as part of the relief operations.

The State government already announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5. lakhs each to nearly 33 persons who lost their lives due to heavy rains in the GHMC and the neighbouring municipalities.

Mr. Rao said,“People residing in low-lying areas were badly affected due to rains and it is the primary responsibility of the State government to extend them relief.  Hence, the State government has decided to extend Rs 10,000 for each flood affected family.”

KCR also said, “The financial support to the flood-affected should be provided on a saturation basis till every family which had suffered losses due to these floods is covered. People should also come forward and register their names with the authorities concerned for the financial assistance.”

The Chief Minster also urged the industrialists, traders, business establishments and others to come forward to extend their help to people who suffered due to heavy rains and floods. He asked them to donate generously to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. 

Since the 10th of October, Telangana witnessed heavy rainfall damaging properties, crops and lives.

Till date, the State Government reported 53 lives which were claimed in the rain related incident. 

In addition, the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) issued an advisory and announced an orange alert for rain in Telangana. 

According to the issued advisory Telangana is likely to get rain for the next two days.
