Telangana CM KCR Visits Kaleshwaram Project And Performs Special Puja

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 19th of January visited Kaleshwaram Project Site, Telangana.

Mr. Rao in his day long tour of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) inspected the work and performed puja.

Mr. Rao and his wife Ms. Shobha performed the special puja at the Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy temple at 10:30 A.M.

On the occasion, the couple paid floral tributes to Godavari River at Pushkara Ghat and offered auspicious turmeric, saffron and coins to River Godavari water.

Mr. Rao visited the Lakshmi Barrage constructed at Medigadda said, “We devised a plan to construct a barrage at the confluence point of Godavari and Pranahita Rivers in order to pump enough water to upstream areas for a longer period. We conducted a scientific survey with Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited (WAPCOS) and decided to build a barrage at Medigadda point. The construction of the barrage at a height of about 100 m with a water storage capacity of 16.17 tmc, is expected to pump water for about seven months. All the constructions went as planned and our expectations are being realised, with water level reaching 99.7 m and water being pumped smoothly without any trouble.”

He also visited Full Reservoir Level (FRL) at all major barrages of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS.)

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao directed the Irrigation officials to start pumping water from the project to fill reservoirs, tanks and other connected water bodies in the State to cater to the needs of people throughout the summer. He also wanted the authorities concerned to expedite the construction of other major projects in the State, taking inspiration from the Kaleshwaram project.

He inspected the operations of the Kaleshwaram project. Reviewing the Kaleshwaram project operations, Chandrashekhar Rao recalled the experiences encountered during the project construction. He said farmers of Telangana suffered due to lack of irrigation facility for decades.

To fully achieve the purpose of Telangana State formation, he said the State government had decided to provide adequate irrigation facilities to enable farmers cultivate two crops per year.

The Chief Minister observed that from Medigadda point upto 54 km in Pranahita River and upto 42 km in Godavari River, water was overflowing. He pointed out that now reservoirs like Yellampally, Mid Manair, Lower Manair Dam, Mallanna Sagar, Kondapochamma Sagar, Baswapur and Gandhamalla reservoirs, can receive water from Medigadda at any time of the year. “Arrangements are also being made to pump irrigation water to Nijamsagar from the Kaleshwaram project, while water can be pumped to Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) from the Kaleshwaram project, if required,” he said.

On the occasion, Chandrashekhar Rao expressed satisifaction and happiness that the construction of the Kaleshwaram project and the water was being pumped as planned. He congratulated the Irrigation department officials, working agencies and employees of other departments for their concerted efforts in completing the construction of the project expeditiously.

KCR said, “We undertook the construction of the Kaleshwaram project on a mission mode, with thousands of workers working round the clock for 365 days, even when the temperature was 50 degrees Celsius. The officials have resolved issues related to land acquisition as well as various crossings in a timely and efficient manner. I am very happy that the construction of the much needed project for the farmers in the State, has been completed and put into use. I am satisfied that the dream of the farmers of Telangana has been fulfilled and the problem of irrigation water has been resolved permanently.”
