Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) in Telangana, lashed out at the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for not conducting enough tests.

Mr. Kumar who took over as the BJP President on the 29th of April said, “The State is trying to show positive cases to be low by decreasing the tests.  The government is not making it clear what is the reason for it.”

Bandi Sanjay Kumar also criticised K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana for not conducting an all party meeting and discussing the situation due to the pandemic illness, the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection.

However, the Telangana Government rubbished all the allegations by the BJP.   Etela Rajender, the Health Minister of Telangana, who is also monitoring the situation closely said, “Telangana is testing effectively and is not doing it unnecessarily….We are not against testing.”

The opposition is raising concern over the decision of the State Government to stop random testing, contact tracing, secondary contact testing.

Doctors authorised to conduct COVID-19 tests were asked to test only Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) patients.

A senior medical staff, who wished to be anonymous said, “We are not able to understand what the government is doing. We have been told that secondary contacts will have to henceforth approach hospitals only if they have Covid-19 symptoms.  If they are mild, home quarantine is advocated.  If they develop breathlessness or pneumonia, only then will tests be done.  Not otherwise.”

Another senior doctor said, “It is not evidence of reduced incidence of disease.  Compare the situation of Hyderabad to Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Indore and other cities where tests are bringing in numbers and giving an idea of the spread.  Here too, the same must be followed but it is not happening.”

Due to the limited testing, the Coronavirus cases decreased to single digit in the past two days.

On the 29th of April, the State reported 7 fresh cases of the Novel Coronavirus.  However, the number of deceased is the same since the 25th of April.

With these updates, Telangana has a total of 1,016 positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus, 582 active cases, 409 recovered/discharged and 25 deceased.

Stay tuned for further updates.
