The Telangana Education Department on the 12th of January, issued guidelines for reopening schools in the State.

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 11th of January, conducted a meeting and decided to reopen schools for class 9 and above.

In regard to this, the State Education Department issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) notified by the Centre.

The SOPs would help schools to prepare an action plan for the reopening of schools and colleges in Telangana.

Chitra Ramachandran, the Special Chief Secretary of Education in Telangana, issued a set of guidelines.

According to the guidelines, each district would have a 9 member District Level Education Monitoring Committee (DLEMC) headed by the District Collector.

Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA,) District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO,) Municipal Commissioner, Data Protection Officer (DPO,) District Educational Officer (DEO,) identified principles from collegiate education and other officers would be members of the committee.

The DLEMC is entrusted with the making of an action plan for the reopening of schools and colleges, logistic plan, medical plan and sanitisation plan following the issued SOPs.

Each principal and headmaster of the school is responsible for the customised action plan of seating, medical, logistics and sanitation. The headmaster/principal would submit the same to the DLEMC.

As part of the logistics plan, the institutions have to maintain at least six feet distance between students in the revised seating plan of the Union Ministry of Health and students seating should be marked for occupying.

As part of the medical plan, at least two isolation rooms should be earmarked in each school and college for any COVID-19 related emergencies.

No outsiders would be allowed on to the campus and physical distance should be maintained in the staff rooms and at the entry and exit points.

No political meetings functions are allowed in all the educational institutions without permission of District Collectors.

The guidelines issued would be applicable to the students of classes 9 and 10, Intermediate first and second years, degree and post graduate and all the technical educational institutions.

In the wake of the Novel Coronavirus outbreak, the students exempt from minimum attendance criteria and attending examinations for the current academic year are not mandatory.

The DLEMC prepared action plan would be given to all schools and institutions by the 18th of January.

Special care would be given to government education hostels of social, tribal, Backwards Classes (BC) and minority welfare departments.

All the above instructions should be strictly followed by all schools and institutions in the State. Strict actions would be taken if any institution/school violates the rules.

The schools are scheduled to reopen in Telangana from the 1st of February.
