On the 25th of June, Telangana reported another big single day spike in the cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
The increasing cases with a rapid speed and high numbers raised concern over the situation and the authenticity of private laboratories which are given approval to conduct COVID-19 tests
Recently, the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) approved 7 private laboratories to conduct Coronavirus tests in Telangana.
Despite better recovery rates and better treatment, the number or positive cases is increasing by 500 regularly.
On the 25th of June, Telangana reported 920 positive cases in the last 24 hours.
In regard to this, the Telangana Government formed a technical committee to investigate the matter.
Dr. G. Srinivas Rao, the Director of Public Health said, said they had formed a committee on the 25th of June and even visited the labs.
A top health official of Telangana Health department said, “In some of these laboratories, 60-70% of the tests were testing positive. There is a strong possibility that they are not following the testing protocol. Also, there is a discrepancy in reports being sent to the state portal and in the ICMR website.”
The committee is scheduled to submit a report of Thursday’s investigation.
Based on the reports, an expert committee will evaluate whether the testing protocols in these labs are as per ICMR standards or not.
As per the reports submitted by the technical committee, the State Government would decide the future course of action.
Meanwhile, Telangana reported a total of 11,364 cases of the Novel Coronavirus.
Out of the total, 6,446 are active cases, 4,688 recovered/discharged cases and 230 deceased.
