Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana, visited Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) or the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Basara.

During the visit, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan stressed conducting thorough health checkups for the girl students.  She further interacted with the students and officials of the university.

The emphasise on medical checkups was in view of the revelation that many students, mostly girls at the IIT Basara were said to be malnourished, with a demand of the required medical help.

Addressing the media after the visit, Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan said that the main purpose of her visit was to give moral support to the students and listen to their grievances with concern and help them bounce back into academic mode.

The Telangana Governor further said, as a mother, she had felt like personally visiting the campus to give them a moral boost and help them to focus on their dreams to make it big in life.  She said, “We must try to solve their problems with humanitarian concern and affection, after all, they are all our children with big hopes to achieve something worthwhile in life.  It is our duty to create necessary basic facilities and help them focus on their studies and research.”

The visit of Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan came after the recent incidents and complaints of bad quality food at the campus hostel, which led to the hospitalisation of many students.  In addition, a couple of students died due to the bad infrastructure and food provided by the campus authority.  The Governor went around the hostels, messes, library, and other facilities on the campus and took note of the prevailing conditions inside the campus, where students agitated in the recent past.

Notably, Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan was accompanied by Secretary to Governor Mr. K. Surendra Mohan and other senior functionaries of the Raj Bhavan.
