The Telangana Government, on the 3rd of January, announced week long Sankranti holidays for schools and junior colleges in Telangana.
According to the announcement, the holidays would begin from the 11th of January and continue till the 17th of January.
The Education Department of Telangana announced the holidays and said all the government schools and institutions would remain closed during the stipulated time.
However, many educational institutions opposed giving these holidays as the Government, in October 2019, extended the Dussehra holidays. The institutions argued giving a week’s holiday for Sankranti would impact the pending syllabus.
Despite the concerns raised by the educational institutions, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) led State Government strictly prohibited these institutions from conducting classes during the holidays.
The officials of the Education Ministry also said if any educational institution is found conducting classes during holidays, it would face strict punishment.
The educational institutions in Telangana would reopen on the 18th of January.
