The K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government demanded 50 lakh doses of Covishield, vaccination against the deadly Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

According to sources, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government urged the Centre to provide 50 lakh doses of to expedite the vaccination programme in the Telugu State.  IN regard to this, Mr. T. Harish Rao, the Health Minister of Telangana, on the 9th of August, Tuesday, wrote a letter to the Union Health Minister Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya.  In the letter, Mr. T. Harish Rao mentioned about the immediately supply 50 lakh doses of Covishield to help ramp up pace of precautionary dose administration amongst eligible people in the State.

Mr. T. Harish Rao informed the Central Minister that the State has decided to take up a massive drive to administer precautionary doses to the eligible population.  He said, Telangana is currently administering only 1.5 lakh doses per day, but due to the shortage of doses, from the required quantity, they are unable to do so.  The minister further said that based on the demand, Telangana has the potential to administer over 3 lakh precautionary doses per day, which is not being realised due to a shortage of vaccines, particularly Covishield.

Considering the same, Mr. T. Harish Rao reminded the Central Government regarding the repeated requested for an increase in vaccine supply.

Currently, Telangana has only 2.7 lakh vaccine doses available, which is not sufficient even for two days, said Mr. T. Harish Rao.

The Telangana Health Minister furthermore highlighted that Telangana has completed 106% of the first dose administration, and 104% of the second dose for people above 18 years.

Moreover, the vaccination drive to administer first dose, second dose and now precautionary also known as the booster dose is still underway for the eligible people.
