The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government is all set to launch the second phase of the State Government’s Kanti Velugu Programme, on the 18th of January.

Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, would launch the scheme during a public meeting in Khammam.  This would be the second time the Kanti Velugu scheme would be in action in the Telugu State of Telangana.  Under the scheme, the State Goverment would provide free treatment and checkups for those suffering from any eye related issues.  As a part of the scheme, the Government would distribute medicines along with spectacles to those suffering from vision related problems.  

It is to be noted, the scheme was first introduced in 2018 by Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao in Malkapur and Medak districts.  However, the scheme was dropped initially after 5 months with an investment of Rs. 106 crores.  

Now, once again, the BRS Government announced the implementation of the Kanti Velugu programme, starting from the 18th of January 2023. 

Meanwhile, highlighting the second phase of the Kanthi Velugu Programme Scheme,  the scheme would cover 1.5 crore individuals and distribute a staggering 55 lakh spectacles to the needy patients.  Out of the 55 lakh eyeglasses,  a total of 30 lakh would be reading glasses while the rest of the 25 lakh would be prescription glasses, which will be meant specifically to correct vision problems and for full time use.

Furthermore, this unique eye care initiative would be held over a period of 100 days with an estimated cost of nearly Rs. 200 crores, starting from January 18th, 2023.  For this purpose, the BRS is expected to form teams of 1,500 doctors and medical staff.

The scheme would benefit underprivileged people suffering from any kind of vision related issues.
